2013 Snowshoe Races
With the crisp cool air, competitive snowshoers have already started to get excited. The flurries have started and the race season is well be under way. From grueling relays to Kid’s Kilos, a variety of races are held around the country. Below is a list of some this season’s snowshoe races.
USSSA Events Page
The United States Snowshoe Association (or USSSA) website has one of the most comprehensive lists of snowshoe races available. Many of the 2012 to 2013 races have yet to be determined, however, the website includes all the necessary information for keeping abreast of forthcoming information. On the events page, you will find links, dates and contact information for over 30 different events across the United States.
2013 Dion National Snowshoe Championships
March 15th-17th, 2013
The USSSA also lists information about the 2013 Dion National Snowshoe Championships in Oregon. The event will take place from March 15 to March 17. The event will also include a 5km Junior Boys & Girls National Championship, 10km Senior Women’s National Championship, 10km Senior Men’s National Championship, Kid’s Kilo Snowshoe Run/Walk, and a 4 x 2.5km Snowshoe Team Relay.
10th Annual Camp Saratoga 8K Snowshoe Race

This upcoming Saturday morning race starts at Camp Saratoga and ends on Scout Road in Wilton, NY. For those new to the sport there will be a limited number of loaners available and in the event that there is no snow the race will likely be a trail race.
Granite State Snowshoe Series
The Granite State Snowshoe Series, held annually in New Hampshire, has become one of the premier snowshoe series in the northeast. While its website has not been updated for the 2013 race, you can stay up to date by “liking” the Granite State Snowshoe Series Facebook page located here.
Empire State Snowshoe Series
Much like the Granite State Series, the Empire State Snow Series website is still a tribute to last year’s race winners. The Empire State series is run by the Empire State Snowshoe Racing Association. The ESSRA is responsible for organizing races across New York and conducting the snowshoeing qualifiers for the New York Empire State Winter Games. Check their event pages for updates on 2013 races.
Scenic Hudson’s Outdoor Gear Demo/Sale & Snowshoe Race

On President’s Day weekend in Beacon, New York, in Scenic Hudson’s Long Dock Park, is a 5K snowshoe race for adults and a shortened course for kids. The race is free but you must register by 10 a.m. that morning.
14th Annual Saratoga Winterfest 5K Snowshoe Race

For more races like this race, located in Wilton, NY, visit here and find other Empire State Snowshoe Racing Association events. There will be a limited number of loaner snowshoes available for those that need them.
Tahquamenon Snowshoe Race

Yet another site still to be updated with information for the 2013 race. This one takes place in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The Tahquamenon race offers three different track lengths: 5K, 10K, and 20K. There will be an 800 m children’s race, as well.
This race has great prizes for finishers in all categories. According to the website:
“Awards will be given to the top three in each age group for each race. Overall male and female winners in the 20K will receive a pair of Atlas snowshoes while winners of the 10K will receive a Mountain Hardwear jacket. Overall winners of the 5K and kid’s races will receive Mountain Hardwear fleece tops. Age group awards for each race include local maple syrup, honey, and Dagoba organic chocolate.”
