Driving Outdoors with the Chicago Auto Show
We were able to get our hands on some photos from the 2013 Chicago Auto Show. We thought we’d share how some manufacturers are incorporating outdoor activities into their displays, while further defining their target markets. While we don’t have any Jeeps listed below, we find it hard not to mention that they have a great test course that you can drive, and it proves that even if the roads are obstructed, you will be able to get up the mountain.
2013 Ford Escape
Whether your favorite color for a car is blue or silver, there is a 2013 Ford Escape ready for the outdoors. The two examples found on the Auto Show floor showed the rack set up to transport mountain bikes and snowboards. Nice!
2013 Mazda CX-5 180
Mazda also thought that a snowboard was the preferred way to travel over snow, in Chicago. We would have preferred some snowshoes and trekking poles, but to each their own!
2013 Subaru Impreza and 2013 Subaru Outback
While Subaru kept with the outdoor themes of their commercials we can’t say they went all crazy decking out the cars. Subaru did show, that while it’s no SUV, their cars will get you, and all your bikes and equipment, wherever you want to go.
2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek
Did we say Subaru didn’t have an SUV or crossover? And no creativity? Can we take that back? If you happen to walk the floor of the Chicago Auto Show, it will be hard to miss this color combination. We also suggest it as a great idea for finding your car in the Campmor parking lot on a Saturday.
2013 Toyota Tacoma and 2013 Toyota Tundra
When the folks at Toyota load up their trucks, they don’t fool around. Toyota was out to show just how many toys can fit in the truck beds of this year’s models. While we at Campmor prefer the bikes you pedal, we can also appreciate the fun in the sun that you can have on a four wheeler and two wheel dirt bikes.
2013 Audi allroad U.S. Ski Team Official Vehicle
As the official vehicle of the U.S. Ski Team, we aren’t shocked to see the skis on this Audi’s roof rack. We also have to believe that this thing is capable of hauling a bunch of people with their gear, up and down a mountain, time after time, no matter the road conditions.
2013 Burton Mini Cooper Clubvan
Mini and Burton teamed up to deck out a Clubvan for a lucky snowboarder. When I think of getting outdoors I don’t think of a Mini, although it is hard not to consider it now, with how they’ve stocked the back with all the snowboarding supplies a family could need, for a weekend of hitting the mountain.
Ford Fiesta Rally Car with Tanner Foust
Not only can this car get you where you want to go quickly, it doesn’t care if you are driving over asphalt, dirt or gravel. Add in the talented driver Tanner Foust, and you are going to get wherever you want to go, DOUBLE QUICK.
Your Favorite Method
So to all of our readers, we ask what is your favorite way to get to your favorite outdoor spot? Do you have a truck, car, bike, canoe, or is it just a short walk down the street? Let us know in the comments.
